A senior Chinese diplomat, Liu Jianchao, who was considered a possible future foreign minister, has been detained.
His arrest comes after he returned from a trip abroad and creates lots of questions about Chinese politics.
Mr. Liu had many important meetings, including one with the US Secretary of State, before his unexpected detention.
This situation reminds people of the surprising removal of former Foreign Minister Qin Gang in 2023, adding uncertainty to China’s leadership.
